“True Lies” of Generations of Burmese Generals

Followings are the excerpts from Burmese Generals’ speeches, statements, press release, to Burmese People and International News Media,.. later found out to be not more than sky full of lies…lies…lies…

This blogger would like to extract the following favourite lies from numerous others, as a good example. That is.. the words of late General Saw Maung’s speech to the whole nation on 23rd September 1988. Shall they deserve to be trusted for free and fair referendum?, after reading, well documented pledges which turned out to be lies during last two decades.

“The fact that only a few persons have been assigned a large number of portfolio responsibilities is clearly indicative that there is no desire whatsoever to cling on to power for a long period. I and all my colleagues, and all Tatmadawmen most respectfully and honestly give our word to all rahans, laity and the people that we do not wish to cling to State power for long.”

July 1988

Ne Win’s Speech (full text) to the Extraordinary Party Congress of the Burma Socialist Programme Party (BSPP)

July 23 1988 Party Congress delegates. I speak on matters for calling Extraordinary Party Congress and the matters to be presented, discussed and approved by this Congress and carried out. Other points which need to be included will also be included. I believe the 1988 March and June bloodshed and disturbances were meant as moves by those who took part in the disturbances and those behind them to show lack of confidence in the Government and the Party leading the Government.

It is necessary to assess whether among the people of the entire country, a majority is behind those lacking confidence or a minority. As I believe that holding a national referendum on what they wish–a one-party system or a multi-party system–would bring out the answer, I am asking the Party Congress to hold a referendum.

If the majority want a multi-party system, the present Constitution’s provision under Chapter II, Paragraph 11 for the sole political party leading the State will have to be substituted with wording in consonance with a multi-party system. A suitable lapse of time would of course be needed for convenient movement of the people, production of ballot cards and other requirements.

I request the present organizations to hand over authority without delay, if the new Hluttaw or the organizations formed by that Hluttaw say that they are no longer needed or continue assistance if asked to do so for some time.

Why do people run away from Burma?

mother-and-son.jpg

Burmese mother and her loved one (This is not the actual picture of victims)

Blogger’s thought

This blogger has heard the numerous sad stories of Burmese Refugees.Every day, several young men, women, old men and children of all races and religions from Burma seems to be running away from the Motherland, leaving behind their homes and for some of them, the loved ones.

Why are these people running away from Burma? Let me quote the words of a friend of this blogger (a Professional) in a job interview. He has said “If my country is 1/10 th of the current situation, I would not be  sitting here for this interview”. These unusual words of a proud professional cause the “would be” employers caught in surprise. He got the job that he deserves.

But the story is different for poor unskilled people who were forced to leave their home and the loved ones because of fear, torture and hunger. The recent news of a ten years old boy who was shot dead, in the hands of his mother hits this blogger’s heart. This news will be hard to believe for those who are living in the big cities without fear and hunger.

The mother and son were from Rakhine State, which is the western border of Burma with Bangladesh. The Father is a general worker in Malaysia. The wife and son finally decided to follow him after several years of separation. However there were no ways that they could unite legally. Finally, they have decided to trust the human traffickers who usually bring people from Burma through Thailand to Malaysia. The night journey in a bus over a highway to Malaysia with other 28 hungry and desperate people fleeing their home was initially uneventful, until Thai police ordered to stop the Bus .The driver decided to ignore the warning.

There were gun shots fired by Thai police to the runaway bus. The mother noticed blood oozing out from her chest and she thought she was hit. The boy was sleeping in her arms .Few minutes later the boy said “ May May(Mother) I think I am hit”.

These are the last words from the ten years old boy before he stopped breathing. The bus continued for one hour and then finally stopped. The Bus driver ordered the dead body of the boy, to be dumped into a roadside drain. The mother refused, and then she was told to stay behind with his son body in darkness. Confused, shocked and frightened, she finally continued the journey with a gunshot wound over her hand and of course with the guilt. She was not treated in any hospital for the wounded hand as she was too afraid to get arrested. Latest news said she finally met with her husband in Malaysia.

This blogger is keep on thinking. Why do people run away from Burma? Who are the culprits?

King and Fire, enemies of Burma

Fire has ravaged the newly built Yadanapon supermarket today. According to the local source the fire was successfully put down only at 6:00 PM local time.

Mandalay is the business hub for the Military ruled Burma as it is strategically located in the junction of main roads leading to China, India, and Thailand. The fire may cause the Computer Market of Mandalay in adverse, as most of the computers and IT business thrived in Yadanapon supermarket. A staff of an ICT center who tried to start the generator with petrol was the source of the fire, according to unconfirmed sources.

There was another major fire broke out in Rangoon on the same day. Estimated three thousand people became homeless due to this fire.

Burmese believe that fire and kings are among the five major common enemies of the citizens of a nation. The king of Burma has already proved to the world that he was indeed an enemy of Burmese people. The fire which was just an accident and a natural disaster will enhance the belief of Burmese people that, they are facing the enemies according to the traditional teaching and religion.

This blogger can not stop thinking how many Million of Burmese people will be whispering among each other to night by comparing a bad King and Inferno of Mandalay and Rangoon, in terms of disastrous effect to the society.

Ordinary Burmese can buy this kind of Radio Cassette

This blogger has posted variety and numerous posts in this web-log. Almost all were telling readers how bad was the Military Junta of Burma, how Burmese people suffers under the Dictatorial regime, and statements of the pro democracy movements and news of ongoing campaign against the Military Junta.

However, this blogger feels that it would be very lucky if these posts are read by one percent of Burmese people staying inside the country. This blogger who is a Burmese, however unable to type in Burmese language fast enough to create a post. So, What are the numbers of my own countrymen received this blogger’s message? It will be very insignificant.

There are wonderful young and energetic Burmese bloggers who have been posting very relevant and interesting opinion in Burmese language .

Military Junta has effectively blocked the work of most famous Burmese bloggers (blogger.com). Arrest of Burmese blogger Nay Phone Latt, Burmese poet Ko Saw Way and recent arrest of Myanmar Nation’s journalists were systematic attack to Free Press and Internet Blogs by terror and fear.

At the same time Junta has declared referendum to be started by May,2008. This is also well planned and calculated attack to pro democracy movement. All of us out here understand that “this referendum” is going to be a sham. However Burmese people are at gun point, and it will be very difficult for them not to follow Junta’s orders as their utmost priority will be to survive the every single harsh day.

For them, Rambo is easy to understand than referendum. Constitution of Burma, which is so vital for future Burma may be something difficult to understand. ( I am well aware of existence of awakened Burmese in rural area) Majority of Burmese are farmers and from rural areas with so much difficulty for day to day survival.

Only way this blogger could think of is that the information relating referendum and constitution to be spread among the Burmese people through radios. The recent news of Burmese from Korea donated radios to Burmese people at border is a very significant move for freedom of Burma.

Now, DVB, RFA, which are run by exile Burmese groups should increase the radio campaign, with simple and straight forward news and programs about importance of referendum and constitution. These program should be started as soon as possible.

We should seek help from VOA,BBC, Aljazeera and CNN to get more news coverage of Burma and more slot of live discussions about freedom of Burma. These program should be able to download from Internet locally and must be able to distribute with Burmese subtitle in pirated VCDs. ( If Burmese can put Korean Movie with Burmese sub title there is no reason that we are unable to add subtitle to these useful discussions which is for urban population)

This blogger feels that this is the high time to start radio campaign for free Burma, as radios are cheap, easily available for majority of Burmese staying in rural area of Burma.

Let us start the Radio campaign for Free Burma.
